Fulani herdsmen kills twelve as fresh crisis hits Southern Kaduna

At least, twelve persons have been reportedly killed while several others got injured in a fresh attack on the residents of Asso Community in Jemaa Local Governments Area of Southern Kaduna. The attack was reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen. It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the community on Saturday and opened fire on residents of the area, killing twelve persons on the spot. Punch reports that the ugly incident occurred at 6.00pm shortly after a peace and reconciliations meeting between the natives and the Fulani. Those injured, according to him, were rushed to the Kafanchan General Hospital, in Jemaa LG for medical treatment. The Kaduna Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman who confirmed the incident said the command could not ascertain the number of those who lost their lives in the latest attack. Abuja airport to be reopened today

Saleh Dunoma, managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), says the runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, would be ready by April 17, two days ahead of the deadline. He gave the assurance in a statement signed by Ariyo Akinfenwa, media consultant to the minister of state for aviation. “We will be ready April 17 but we are leaving the remaining two days for Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA),” the statement read. “We have written to them and they will come by today (Sunday) to do the preliminary inspection. “They have to certify the airport that what we have done is in accordance with their standards. “If there is any observation as a result of the inspection, we will now make sure we carry out corrections.” He maintained that with the work done, the April 19 deadline for the reopening of the airport is no longer in doubt. COIMBATORE: Investigation into rationalist H Farooq murder case was handed over to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) police on Saturday by the Director General of Police (DGP) TK Rajendran. The decision to hand over the case to the agency came after one of the six accused confessed that he drew inspiration from Bengaluru bomb blast accused Kichan Buhari. A top CB-CID official told Express, “The case has been transferred to us and we have received the files. One of the accused has confessed that he was inspired by Buhari. Nigerian Govt Spent N84m In Transporting Passengers Between Kaduna, Abuja In Six Weeks

The Nigerian federal government has spent over N84 million for the transportation of air passengers between Kaduna and Abuja since the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The sum was shared among three motor companies that provided 29 vehicles in total to transport the passengers during the Abuja airport closure. Chisco Motors provided eighteen vehicles, Auto Star Executives provided nine, and MFC investment provided two, our correspondent learned. Chisco Motors was used to ferry economy passengers, while Auto Star Executives transported international passengers and MFC buses ferried business class passengers. A document exclusively made available to our correspondent by a source close to the Abuja airport indicated that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) provided the funds for the motor companies. The Argungu fishing festival in its very first edition began in the year 1934, as a mark of the end of the centuries-old hostility between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom. Alhaji Samaila Mera, the Emir of Argungu on Sunday said the popular Argungu Fishing and Cultural Festival would hold in March 2018 and feature polo as one of its events. NAN reports that Mera made the remarks during a courtesy call by Francis Ogboro, the President of the Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF) and his officials to the Emir’s palace. The four-day yearly festival held in Kebbi State is one of Nigeria’s internationally recognised tourism attractions. But unfortunately, it has not been held since the last edition in 2009, posing a huge revenue loss to the local economy and the country.
